Request for Proposals

New Vision Award RFP

The Proposal Period is Now Closed

Stay tuned to this site for the next proposal period, anticipated in September 2009.

The College of Education is excited to announce that the Learning Technology Center is now accepting proposals for a new round of the Vision Awards. These projects support the design, production, and implementation of innovative and visionary applications of learning technologies within the College. Faculty projects that are selected will receive up to 200 hours of expert web design, application development and multimedia production services. Instructional design and project management services are also available to help faculty plan and carry out their development efforts.

Successful proposals:

  • incorporate technology in a way that enhances and/or expands the faculty member's classroom instruction.
  • are of a scope that requires approximately 80 to 200 person-hours to complete (larger projects may be considered if proposed by a team of faculty members).
  • show that the project is sustainable without additional program support once development is completed.

Application process:

It is strongly recommended that faculty members consult with the IDEA Studio as they begin conceptualizing a project. Staff members can help faculty clarify project needs and requirements, brainstorm potential technology solutions, and lay out a strong design framework for the proposal. In addition, the IDEA Studio can help faculty clarify the scope of the proposed project and identify additional potential sources of support including the Division of Instructional Innovation and Assessment's ~FAST-Tex program. To set up an appointment, send an email to visionawards@teachnet.edb.utexas.edu, drop by the IDEA Studio in SZB 437, or call 232-2189.

Proposal format:

Proposals can be very brief, but should include descriptions of the following:

  • goal(s) and specific objectives of the project
  • final product
  • audience for the product (including how many individuals might benefit from it)
  • activities necessary for the realization of the project
  • resources already in place that will contribute to the completion of the proposed project
  • how the project will be sustained once development is completed

Please submit applications (either a Word file or a .pdf) no later than March 23 to: visionawards@teachnet.edb.utexas.edu.

Timeline:

  • Proposals due: Mar 23
  • Announcement of award recipients: Apr 2
  • Kickoff meetings with project teams: Apr 10 - Apr 17
  • Project completion deadline: August 28

Special focus area - Mobile devices

We have received a fixed amount of funding specifically dedicated to projects that utilize handheld/mobile devices in support of instruction. So if you have a vision for the instructional application of PDAs, cell phones, iPods, or other portable devices, let us hear about it!
